Ukraine Aid: Supporting Project Ruth

Updated Tuesday, March 8, 2022

WMUV partnered with Project: Ruth in Bucharest, Romania several years ago as they worked and ministered among the Roma population. Our brothers and sisters in Christ are now also meeting needs among Ukrainian refugees by housing them at the Ruth School and Providence Baptist Church in Bucharest. We would like to walk alongside them through prayer and financial support by providing specific prayer requests from our partners at the Ruth School and contributing funds to care for refugees. Brittany Garton, Projects Manager for Project Ruth, has shared they are currently accommodating 42 Ukrainian women and children, and have become a hub for refugees needing access to embassies in Bucharest. They have a need for funds to provide hygiene kits, food, and clothing/shoes to these families. Brittany shares, Our turnover costs are the highest because it means that even if a refugee is only with us for a night or two, we still want to be the light of Christ to them in this trying time. Of our 50 refugees thus far only four have been confessed Christians. We have had several women ask how much money we receive from the government for treating them so nicely. They are shocked to hear that we treat them as our guests because of our love for Christ. One lady even remarked that her whole life she had lived in a house next door to a Baptist church but had never been inside the courtyard and now God had brought her here to Baptists to care for her, love on her and her children and to provide a safe place to lay their heads.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Thanks to our partners in missions at the BGAV, a donation fund has been set up to donate specifically to this need. Click below to give, and in the drop-down box under “I want my donation to be designated toward,” select Aid for Ukraine- WMUV Project Ruth.

We encourage you and your congregation to also consider giving toward the BGAV efforts for the European Baptist Federation during this crisis. More information can be found here: bgav.org/blog/bgav-calls-churches-to-pray-for-ukraine.
